چکیده

Abstract Shape-memory polymer (SMP)-based functional structures may now be produced more efficiently via four-dimensional (4D) printing, benefiting from the recent advances in multi-material three-dimensional printing technologies. Composite material design using 4D has opened new possibilities for customizing shape memory property of smart polymers. This work studies a strategy to harness desirable morphing by multimaterial composites with focus on detailed finite element (FE) procedure, experimental results, and soft robotic application. Composites bilayer laminates consisting SMP flexible elastomer are constructed variable thickness ratios control self-bending composite. FE simulations used understand underlying processes composite materials generate accurate predictions which reduces cost development time. The application programming is demonstrated gripper manipulating fragile objects.

Multimaterial 4D Printing with Tailorable Shape Memory Polymers

We present a new 4D printing approach that can create high resolution (up to a few microns), multimaterial shape memory polymer (SMP) architectures. The approach is based on high resolution projection microstereolithography (PμSL) and uses a family of photo-curable methacrylate based copolymer networks. We designed the constituents and compositions to exhibit desired thermomechanical behavior (...

Biomimetic 4D printing.

Shape-morphing systems can be found in many areas, including smart textiles, autonomous robotics, biomedical devices, drug delivery and tissue engineering. The natural analogues of such systems are exemplified by nastic plant motions, where a variety of organs such as tendrils, bracts, leaves and flowers respond to environmental stimuli (such as humidity, light or touch) by varying internal tur...

A multimaterial electrohydrodynamic jet (E-jet) printing system

Electrohydrodynamic jet (E-jet) printing has emerged as a high-resolution alternative to other forms of direct solution-based fabrication approaches, such as ink-jet printing. This paper discusses the design, integration and operation of a unique E-jet printing platform. The uniqueness lies in the ability to utilize multiple materials in the same overall print-head, thereby enabling increased d...

Instrumented cardiac microphysiological devices via multimaterial three-dimensional printing

Biomedical research has relied on animal studies and conventional cell cultures for decades. Recently, microphysiological systems (MPS), also known as organs-on-chips, that recapitulate the structure and function of native tissues in vitro, have emerged as a promising alternative. However, current MPS typically lack integrated sensors and their fabrication requires multi-step lithographic proce...

Multimaterial magnetically assisted 3D printing of composite materials

3D printing has become commonplace for the manufacturing of objects with unusual geometries. Recent developments that enabled printing of multiple materials indicate that the technology can potentially offer a much wider design space beyond unusual shaping. Here we show that a new dimension in this design space can be exploited through the control of the orientation of anisotropic particles use...
